After a crown or bridge is installed

It is important to follow the instructions below for proper healing. Note that some discomfort and swelling are normal after surgery.

The installation of crowns and bridges takes two appointments, and sometimes one in the case of a CEREC crown. At the first appointment, we take impressions of the teeth to be replaced. Then temporary crowns or bridges are placed to protect your teeth until the replacement tooth or teeth are ready.

Day of the surgery
  • Make sure that your teeth are really clean and that you have flossed to remove any food stuck between your teeth so your dentist can work in an environment conducive to quality care.
Things to avoid
  • Don't consume hot beverages when you are frozen.
  • Don’t eat hard or sticky foods (chewing gum, candy).
Food
  • Try to eat on the opposite side.
From the day after until fully healed
  • Brush your teeth normally, but avoid flossing in the area to avoid dislodging the temporary crown or bridge.
  • If a temporary crown comes off, you must come back to the clinic so we can re-cement it. This is done to limit the mobility of your other teeth and make it easier to install the final tooth.

Do not hesitate to call us at 450-923-0055 if you feel any pain, have trouble closing your mouth or have any other questions about your recovery.
